The calligraphy in this series of 30 large paintings and 70 works on paper, are taken from Baldwin’s 1955 novel ‘Notes of a Native Son’. The works by Romero address via a pictorial register the issues of ‘betrayal and hope’ that consumed Baldwin throughout his life and writings.
